My name is Becca, and I'm really glad that you stopped by.
Hopefully by now you have read my HOME page and gotten a little bit of a feel for what I'm planning on doing. If you've read the HOME page and have also started browsing through my 21 Day Challenge posts, then you've probably gotten to know me a little bit better through my snarky monologues.
With that being said, there is only so much you can learn about someone based on their narration of their own life, right? You know that person in the moment and in the way they describe the interactions.... but that would be pretty limited were it the only way I introduced myself.

alright, so...
In the spirit of my challenge, I am wanting this to really highlight my personality AND give some fun facts. Also, a lot of pictures.
I love pictures.
However, I do also feel it is important to give a little background on myself to allow us to connect more. That alright?
Great.
Let's get started!

basic bio:
I grew up in a small town on the West Side of Cleveland, OH right along Lake Erie. From my house I can walk to the beach, stroll the metroparks, and also walk to my High School. The town is only eight square miles and has very limited entertainment, but it was truly a wonderful place to grow up.
Very safe. Very comfortable... And very plain.
Now, I am by no means complaining about where I grew up! It is a lovely city and I am very fortunate to have been blessed to grow up there knowing all of my neighbors, my entire graduating class, and the people who helped us out at the local supermarket. All of those things are great, and they gave myself and my brother a fabulous childhood environment, but you probably wouldn't be surprised to hear that myself and my classmates are mostly itching to get out and explore the world outside of 'The Bubble' (as we jokingly call it).
Because my town is so small, I mostly had to travel outside of the city lines for activities. I never got into team sports, but instead found a passion for dancing.
When I was four years old, I told my mom that I wanted to be a ballerina. You'll have to laugh when you hear how I found out about ballerinas... Not on TV, not through some Barbie kit... no, no.
Randomly at the mall.
Yep, there was a ballerina at the mall.
Well, she was doing a showcase for The Nutcracker and despite the abnormal dancing environment, I was hooked. And I've never looked back!
Fast forward fourteen years and I'm now 18 years old with loads of dance experience. My studio was very small and very different from any other studio I had ever visited or seen on television. Instead of competing with one another and starting cat fights in the dressing room, we became a family... throwing birthday parties for one another, making up our own goofy songs, and making silly faces at one another while stretching at the barre. Without dance and that studio, I don't know where I would be.
At different points in my life, dance has meant different things.
When I was first starting out, I had dreams of becoming a professional ballerina and spinning forever on my tippy-toes... Well... that dream fell to the wayside when I learned just how difficult and taxing that lifestyle is... both mentally and physically! (and financially...!)
In adolescent and pre-teen years it became social. I bonded quickly with the other girls and we became so close that they felt like sisters to me. We never really had strict training, so for me the fun was top priority. And I look back so fondly on those years.
Enter High School and dancing takes on a whole new meaning. Ah, High School.... if those were supposed to be the best four years of my life, then I want a do-over! Emotional roller-coasters, personal trials and tribulations, and many other outside forces piled up on my shoulders, leaving me feeling overwhelmed and out of control. For a perfectionist, those are not good feelings to have!
Through it all, dance pulled me back to reality. It gave me a way to express my feelings and get out my angst in a productive and creative way. My dance friends stayed by my side. When I knew nothing else, I knew that I had the power to stand on my own two feet (or one foot), breathe, move, and release. Now without all of the grimy details of my hardships, it may seem strange that just moving a body to some music could be so therapeutic... but even in the darkest times, dance provided me something to look forward and hold onto.
Which is why I will be continuing my dance education in college!
August 27, 2014 I will begin my first day of classes at The Ohio State University (O-H!) studying Nutrition in Industry and contemplating a minor in dance. It has become such a part of my life that I cannot imagine leaving it behind! As far as my major goes, I have developed a love for nutrition and fitness. I considered studying nutrition and exercise science, but have since decided that I would love to keep my passion for fitness and weight-lifting (more on that later) outside of my career, and do something that I believe in and would give me a creative outlet. The end result of my major may seem a bit nebulous at this point, but I would love to be able to channel my inner marketing-guru in a way that would expand the horizons of healthy food for America. Without going into a huge rant (which I could... and may some day in my blog posts), I believe that food has the power to change peoples' lives. Whether someone wants to lose weight, gain health, or just feel better about themselves I personally feel that eating naturally from God's earth is the simplest way to do so! I would love to come up with marketing schemes to show people that starving yourself isn't the answer for weight loss, and that holistic nutrition values can change the outcome of so many diseases and health problems. OK I need to stop before this turns into Becca's Rant About The Food Business and I forget to complete my bio.

I mentioned briefly that I have a brother so I would like to dedicate a small section of my bio to my family and home environment because I wouldn't be who I am today without them. And YAY I finally get to use some fun facts :D
I have two lovely parents: Sean and Debbie Fun Fact! They met on their first day of college and haven't looked back on their love since! *everybody with me now... "aaaaaaw"* I have one older brother: Alex Fun Fact! He likes to build and program computers from scratch... just because he can. Good thing he is studying electrical and computer engineering. We need more people like him! I have one dog: Daisy Fun Fact! She can do some really really impressively stupid dog tricks. Like eating corn on the cob. I have one cat: Sasha Fun Fact! She can open the bathroom door... even when it is locked. I guess maybe she has attachment issues. I don't know what she will do when I leave! |
PHEW!
I feel like I've mentally exhausted all of you! What I wanted to be just a short snippet of my life has turned into almost a small novel...
